DENVER REGIONAL CLIMATE AND PROSPERITY EFFORTS
- Sustainable Business Survey: The Colorado Energy Coalition’s (CEC), Sustainability Subcommittee is surveying the business community to find out the percentage of companies that are investing in sustainable practices. If companies are not engaged in sustainable practices then we want to know what are the barriers to investment (i.e. lack of information, too expensive, location of resources are or simply don’t know where to start). This information will assist us in developing marketing tools and resources to increase green investment and efficiency.
- Regional Best Practices: The CEC is also gathering regional business best practices in sustainability that will detail investments made, total energy savings and the payback period. A list of best practices will help other companies to see real world examples and how energy savings can affect their bottom line.
- Clean-tech Asset Map: The Metro Denver EDC has developed a brief asset map of the Clean Tech industry listing companies, universities, research labs and green programs in the region. This list is being used to develop a marketing campaign to help attract other energy companies to the region.
- Existing clean-tech industry survey: The Metro Denver EDC recently completed a Clean-Tech energy survey of companies that have made a decision to relocate to the region in the past couple of years to find out what factors were key to their decision in selecting the Metro Denver area.
- Clean-tech web page: Clean-Tech survey results are currently being used to develop a web page within the existing Metro Denver EDC website. The web page will market our region as the best place to grow and locate a clean-tech company.
- A national marketing campaign is also being developed to attract other Clean-Tech companies to the region and state.
- Baseline Measurements: The CEC is working with Metro Mayor’s Caucus to develop regional economic, baseline measurements for green jobs, investments, GHG emissions and others to assess how communities are positively affecting their environment thru sustainable practices. Future investments can then be benchmarked against the baseline to see where improvements or investments can be made.
- Climate Sensors: The City of Denver, the Metro Denver EDC, Co-Labs and the Governor’s Energy Office are working together with NOAA to install climate change sensors throughout the region to monitor GHG emissions whose data can be used to develop regional baseline measurements.
- Metro Denver EDC is apart of an effort to develop a Statewide Cleantech plan with GEO, OEDIT etc.
